Power transmission service provider, NGCP, fully restores power to grid-connected electric cooperatives and distribution utilities with the energization of the Pawa-Malinao 69-kiloVolt (kV) transmission line serving the franchise area of Albay Power and Energy Corporation (APEC), at 2:43PM of 05 January 2017.
NGCP completed repair works by 04 January, however, unfavorable weather conditions hampered energization. Upon the request of APEC, energization was deferred to 5 January to ensure the safety of NGCP and APEC personnel working on site, as well as the integrity of the technical equipment involved.
Immediately after the typhoon hit on 25 December, NGCP mobilized almost 600 personnel from all points of the country to speed up the restoration of all transmission services after Typhoon Nina wreaked havoc in the South Luzon areas.
NGCP employed the use of emergency restoration structures (ERS) to erect bypass lines and swiftly restore power to the Bicol region.
NGCP personnel spent the holidays away from their families, working day and night to normalize transmission services at the soonest possible time. “NGCP thanks all of our personnel, from our linemen, our engineers, our technical and non-technical staff, for their unwavering passion and dedication to serve our country and bring power back to the affected communities,” stated NGCP.
NGCP is continuously taking the necessary preparations, as institutionalized in its Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP), to minimize the impact of succeeding typhoons and disasters on NGCP operations and facilities.
