NGCP, with the completion of the Tabango-Ormoc bypass line, is ready to provide feedback power to the geothermal plants operated by EDC, so that they can begin powering up. NGCP is currently awaiting clearance from EDC confirming they are ready to receive said feedback power.
When EDC confirms it is ready to receive feedback power from NGCP, the Upper Mahiao and Malitbog geothermal plants may be energized and ready to supply power after 16-18 hours of preparation, to be counted from the time feedback power is received.
NGCP will also transport transformers from Compostela and Banilad, Cebu, to Ormoc Substation to replace the damaged transformers in the facility.
Once the transformers from Ormoc Substation have been repaired and energized, together with the power coming from EDCís in-island power plants, and the supply from Tongonan Powerplant, 70 MegaWatts (MW) of power will be made available to the grid. Actual allocation will be subject to agreements made by the different distribution utilities in Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Biliran.
Restoration activities may be delayed due to inclement weather and aftershocks that may be felt the area. Apart from ensuring the safety of the linemen, high voltage equipment for repair are highly sensitive to motion and moisture brought by unfavorable weather conditions.
NGCP assures the public that it is continuously monitoring the situation and will provide more updates as new information is available.
